Hike Table Mountain

Hike Table Mountain

Join one of our qualified Footsteps to Freedom mountain guides for a private guided walk up Cape Town’s most famous landmark. Our three most popular trails are:

The Platteklip Gorge Trail is a steep walk but involves no rock scrambling. This is the quickest way to climb Table Mountain and ascent takes approx. 2.5 hrs at a leisurely pace. At the summit, you have the option of walking to Maclear’s Beacon, at 1086m the highest point on Table Mountain. Descent via cableway. Moderate to good level of fitness required for this walk.

The Lion’s Head hike rewards you with 360 ͦ views of Table Mountain, the City, Robben Island, and the vast Atlantic Ocean. This is a great hike if you want to be active but have limited time, or on those days when the cableway is closed due to weather issues.  The steeper sections at the end of the hike are aided by staples and chains (but a slightly longer path can also be taken to avoid the staples/chains). This hike requires moderate fitness and can be completed in a leisurely 3 hrs.

Of the three routes, India Venster is the most adventurous. It involves some scrambling and exposure to heights. No ropes. The hike starts conveniently at the lower cable station, the route then climbs steeply until below the upper cable station. This section of the route involves some rock scrambling. You then traverse westwards, wrap around the Kloof edge, towards the slopes above Camps Bay. This route is for those who love hiking, have a good level of fitness and agility and would like to see Table Mountain from different perspectives. Descent via cableway.
